FCCU Team Spotlight: Staci Schoenrock
Welcome to our fourth FCCU Team Spotlight blog! I sat down with Staci, our Director of Credit Resolutions. Check it out!
Hi, Staci! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how long you’ve worked here?
Hi! I’m Staci Schoenrock. I am the Director of Credit Resolutions now (having just been promoted recently), and I have been here for over 13 years now. Actually, when I worked at the Wisconsin Credit Union League, Fort Community Credit Union was also my account, so I probably worked it for like 7 years before I came to work here.
How did you make that transition from the League to the Credit Union?
When I worked for the League, I worked for the collection agency. Prior to that, [FCCU] had severed ties with the League Collection Agency, and hired Pat [VandenBerg] to do collections here, who worked them for about a year. I kept in contact with Jim Simdon, and when the League Collection Agency was shutting down, I reached out to Jim and asked if there were any positions available. He said that Pat was going in a different direction, and he offered me a job of collections here at the Credit Union, and I’ve been here ever since!

I feel like there’s a lot of misunderstanding about what you do. Could you briefly explain what it is you do for FCCU?
Sure! The main thing that I do here is I protect the Credit Union and our members from loss, so to protect their assets, but I do it while being kind and respectful to our members. I really help our members through financial troubles that they’re going through.
I’m a [certified] Financial Counselor – I help them through the difficult times. Sometimes, if the member isn’t returning my calls or actively communicating with me, then the Credit Union might be forced to take different measures if they leave us no option. I have to do that and it really is so much easier for both the member and the credit union if we are actively communicating about the situation. As much as I can, I always try to help the members, but sometimes it goes a little further than that.
When you’re not in the office, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Family is first and foremost, so anything I can do with my family. I do a lot of golfing and I love football! *Points at a poster of Clay Matthews.* I like to read, go to movies, and I like to go boating in the summer. Anything with family is my favorite thing to do.

What is your favorite volunteering opportunity at FCCU?
Well, I was on the board for the United Way Opens a New Window. for a number of years. I’m the campaign coordinator now for the Credit Union. I love doing anything for the Special Olympics. If you want to just be lifted up after a day, volunteer for the Special Olympics. I’ve done the basketball tournament, I’ve done bocce ball – I will do anything they ask me to do. You wanna talk about human spirit? There are some people that inspire.
Completely switching gears, there are some questions from the previous blogs that I feel I should ask too. Do you have a favorite 80s or 90s jam?
You know, probably anything by Bon Jovi. I LOVE Bon Jovi. Like Livin’ on a Prayer! I’ve seen Bon Jove twice; I actually thought about seeing him again now, because he’s coming back [to Wisconsin], but I thought ‘nah, I’m good.’
When I was in junior high, I was a huge Cars fan, and I used to like Adam Ant and Divo.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
Any animal? See I love dogs, but I would say a cat. Really? Just look at their life! They are like *gestures above head* up here, man. Have you ever watched a cat? They just have this air about them that I wish I had. Life is good, and they’re in charge. They do everything with such grace. And they rule my house, that’s for sure!
What has been your best day here at FCCU?
Any day where I get to help a member is a good day. A good day to me is when I help somebody. And if a member thanks me, that makes it a great day.
Because you know that you made a difference?
Exactly.

What is your favorite thing about FCCU?
I like that we’re a team here. I feel like we’re family. And I like that we get out into the communities and we do things. So I think that’s my favorite part. We’re a team.
